I think Pygmy even gives you pattern pieces to lay on the wood and cut as if you were making a dress. (My boatbuilding is better than my sewing luckily.) Don't skimp on ventilation and breathing protection but I'd say go for it when you can afford it.

My father wanted to build a Pygmy but got sick and passed before he had a chance.

This is me in his Chesepeak Light Craft.

Maybe the Harmony would work, but that is out of the question.

Not sure that I understand the question in full, but most components use one of a small handful of common IR codes, for the basic functionality, at least. This means that even cheap universals can often do the basics of most of the stuff out there. It's been a while since I had to deal with them, but there were a couple of when-in-doubt codes to try when working with IR, I think that Philips codes were one of them, maybe RCA... anyway, one of three or four would usually get a response.

I don't know what crampons are so I'm guessing I don't have any.

Re: calorie counting, I've never found calorie restriction to leave me anything but hungry, fatigued, and miserable. Eating the right stuff in whatever quantity it takes, on the other hand, leaves me fit and fast. After yesterday's hoovering of (good) food I'm down a pound...

Sheesh. Yesterday you tell us you don't know about the "female part." Today you reveal that you don't know what crampons are.

Okay, so the Magnus is working fine now. I can't say I am excited about the Zwift shtick at this point. For at least a little while I would just like to ride a flat route (REALLY flat) and use the dashboard to learn about my performance. Can I set Zwift just to show data without all the route business. Rouvey might do it, but I have a free year with Zwift and don't want to pay for another app. Can anyone tell me what to do.

Try different routes. Try some of the workouts. Try some group rides and/or races. Try doing real-time rides with friends. There are many options. Depends on your goals.

If you just want to use Zwift as an online power meter you can probably do that with the native app your Magnus came with (at least there is one for my KICKR), the benefit of Zwift is it recreates an interactive group ride environment to keep it interesting and/or motivating.

Have you even tried a group ride yet??

edit: if you want to just do a boring flat route, there are plenty. Just pick one and ride.

And I thought I lived under a rock. I knew what both of those things are. Ant and dongle remain a mystery and it is just as well they remain so. I will never have occasion to use one.

seedsbelize01-30-18 09:29 AM

I realized this morning, in conversation with the Mrs., that it has been nearly nine years since I have set foot in Belize. She is there almost every year. I plan a trip to Guatemala later in the year, and will probably pass through Belize on the way home.

Velo Vol01-30-18 09:37 AM

I've never set foot in Belize.

Ahem. ANT+.

I understand all that, but I am not ready yet. I just want to learn more about what my performance looks like in numbers. I will get to the group stuff by and by.

Magnus has no native app. CycleOps is Rouvy, but you have to pay after the trial period. You can calibrate the trainer without paying, but you can't do any real riding...I think.

Thing is it is really hard to interest and motivate me. I just don't care who is in front and who is in back. I don't like hills going up or going down. It's a problem.

indyfabz01-30-18 09:45 AM

I've never set foot in Belize, with or without crampons.

Makes sense.

I hiked LeCont as a kid. I did not have crampons, but I do remember one part where you have to go along the middle of a sheer cliff with just about 4" wide path and a rope to hold on to. I'm guessing that's where the crampons come in handy during the winter.

Look into Performance Pro Studio. It does everything computrainer better than Zwift except the "virtual terrain" stuff.

If you want structured workouts, it is hands down the best.

Zwift for me is a fad. PerfPro is the workhorse.

Guess your FTP or run the test, then do the 6 week FTP course.

You may be able to do run the trainer in dumb mode, where it doesn't vary the resistance based on hills. So when you hit a hill, the resistance is the same, you just go slower up the hill.

Last time I used zwift when you start you can enter "prefer flat routes" so when a turn comes up it'll take you on the flattest version of the route if it's available. That will work on all of the courses.

They're tampons treated with a special substance that helps with pain and encourages the consumption of Doritos.

The apple slices have a slight crunch and are tart-sweet (pink lady).

The banana chips are not cloyingly sweet like store bought dried bananas, but they are my least favorite of the bunch.

I think coming up with some sugar-salt-chili concoction to dust the pineapple pieces would be a worthy endeavor.

Mrs. LAJ has mass quantities of different powders sent along by her many pals. A touch of Stevia type sweetener mixed in, and it's delicious. Watermelon is the true candy.

It seems you're making this more complicated than it needs to be. :)

I suggest, you take a couple (a few?) test rides in Zwift first, just to get a feel for how the trainer and the software interact. Then, when you get an idea of what power/gear you like, create a workout for however long you want at that power level. Set your FTP to a number that felt comfortable from your trial rides. During your workout, you can increase/decrease the power level by ±10% right from the screen, on the left below the workout interval bar. During the workout, you will see your power and speed with no trainer effect from elevation changes on the course ( your speed is still based solely on power, so flats will be faster than inclines, but the incline will not change the resistance of the trainer). If you want to increase power beyond the ±10%, you will need to exit the workout and go back and select it again and set your FTP slider bar higher.

Now, if you really just want to see nothing but a number on a screen, you can go get Golden Cheetah and use the workout mode to just see the power output for different gear choices and cadences. However, be warned, Golden cheetah is not a terribly user friendly piece of software. However, it will read ANT+ data and show it on a workout screen.
