Nightmare on Elm Street
Er trägt einen rot-grün gestreiften Sweater, einen mit Klingen besetzen Handschuh und sein Gesicht ist von schweren Verbrennungen schrecklich entstellt: Der Serienmörder Freddy Krueger gilt seit seinem Film-Debüt im Jahr 1984 als einer der ikonischsten Horror-Bösewichter – der Originalfilm "Nightmare – Mörderische Träume" zog ganze sieben Fortsetzungen nach sich. 2010 hob Regie-Novize Samuel Bayer ein Remake des Horror-Klassikers aus der Taufe: "A Nightmare on Elm Street" erzählt die kultige Geschichte neu und ist passend zu Halloween aktuell bei Netflix verfügbar.

Old People
Mit "Old People" schickt Netflix einen bizarren Horror-Streifen aus deutscher Produktion an den Start, der das klassische Zombie-Genre neu interpretiert und dabei gleichzeitig noch den bundesweiten Pflegenotstand aufs Korn nimmt. Mutter Ella (Melika Foroutan) die mit ihren Kindern zur Hochzeit ihrer Schwester fährt, besucht auf dem Weg ihren Großvater, der im Altenheim lebt. Die Anstalt gibt jedoch ein desolates Bild ab – die Senioren sind hier bestenfalls "zum Sterben geparkt". Doch plötzlich weicht die Lethargie der alten Menschen blanker Wut und sie beginnen einen blutigen Rachefeldzug gegen alle, die sie vernachlässigt haben. "Old People" ist seit dem 7. Oktober bei Netflix verfügbar.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Er schwingt eine Kettensäge, tötet unschuldige Jugendliche und er trägt eine grauenerregende Maske aus Menschenhaut: Leatherface. Sein Film-Debut hatte der brutale Serienmörder im Horror-Klassiker "Blutgericht in Texas" aus dem Jahr 1974. Mit "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" hat Netflix 2022 eine Adaption des Stoffs aus der Taufe gehoben, die als Fortsetzung des Originalfilms gedacht ist und die den kultigen Killer ins Zeitalter von Influencern, Social Media und Co. holt.

Scary Movie 5
Die Scary-Movie-Filme haben es bewiesen: Horror und Klamauk zusammen – das geht. Mit zotigem Humor, Starbesetzung und unzähligen Anspielungen auf andere Horror-, Mystery und Science-Fiction-Titel hat die Filmreihe der 2000er und frühen 2010er Jahre mittlerweile absoluten Kultstatus. Teil 5 der Reihe ist aktuell bei Netflix verfügbar und nimmt unter anderem "Paranormal Activity", "Insidious", "Shades of Grey" und "Black Swan" aufs Korn. Der Netflix-Originalfilm besticht durch die beklemmende Atmosphäre in den Wäldern Schwedens. Horrorfans sollten nicht viele Schockmomente erwarten, dafür ist die Spannung solide inszeniert.

Creep
Wer von Jumpscares längst die Schnauze voll hat, ist mit diesem spannungsvollen Found Footage-Vertreter gut bedient. Vor allem die Story weiß mit durchaus unvorhersehbaren Wendungen zu überzeugen. Creep 2, ebenfalls bei Netflix verfügbar, kann die Qualität seines Vorgängers allerdings nicht halten.

Hostel
Neben "Saw" wohl einer der bekanntesten und wegweisendsten Horrorfilme der 2000er: Darin landet eine Gruppe von Rucksacktouristen bei ihrer Europareise in einem Hostel in der Slowakei, in dem die Gäste im Hinterzimmer auf brutalste Weise gefoltert werden. Eli Roths "Hostel" ist absolut nichts für Zartbesaitete: Aber wer Splatter mag, wird diesen Film lieben – denn hier geht's richtig blutig zu.

Auslöschung
Kein klassischer Horror, aber mit reichlich horriblen Szenen ausgestattet. Man denke nur an die Szene mit dem Bären: Da stinken einige Schock-Vertreter des Genres mächtig gegen ab.

Die Saw-Reihe ist im Bereich der blutigen Horror- und Splatter-Filme mittlerweile Kult. Bösewicht Jigsaw konstruiert grauenerregende Fallen, in denen seine Opfer einen brutalen und meist äußerst blutigen Tod sterben, wenn sie sich nicht auf mindestens genauso grausame Weise retten können.

Resident Evil
In einer dystopischen Welt entwickelt ein Biotechnologie-Konzern ein gefährliches Virus, das in die Umwelt gelangt, alle Menschen zu Zombies macht und die Apokalypse verursacht – doch einige wenige werden nicht infiziert oder sind immun und kämpfen von nun an ums Überleben. Als Prototyp für Zombie-Streifen dieser Art kann der originale "Resident Evil"-Film aus dem Jahr 2002 gelten, der seinerseits lose auf der gleichnamigen Videospielreihe basiert und als trashiger Sci-Fi-Action-Zombiefilm fünf Fortsetzungen und viele Nachahmer inspirierte.
